In the latest news, effective January 1, 2025, several major shipping lines will implement the Panama Canal Surcharge on the Asia to U.S. East Coast route. This adjustment is in response to the Panama Canal Authority's (ACP) new booking system.
Key changes include:
- A new surcharge of $40/TEU will be imposed on all cargo types
- Impact routes covering Southeast Asia, China, Korea and Japan to the U.S. East Coast and Gulf of Mexico
- The new booking system will include stricter arrival time management
New Policy Points:
- If the vessel does not arrive within 7 days of the scheduled date, an additional charge of 250% will be assessed
- Provide free booking change service 14 days in advance
- Introduction of a new "last minute transit booking" option
